Relating to the natural world by Fiona Ackerman
I am a contemporary painter in the time of environmental decline. I am trying to rebuild a personal relationship with the environment by exploring the mythologies, philosophies and ecologies of the natural world. Painting is my window onto the subjects of my curiosity. Through my botanical research, I explore the intricacies of nature, and the storied history of humankind’s relationship with it. With a focus on painterly form, colour and composition, I interpret the natural world through my practice in order to build a personal relationship with it, and an understanding of our natural past, present and future.
